VISUALISASI PLAK UNTUK MONITORING EDUKASI KESEHATAN GIGI ANAK DENGAN O'LEARY PLAQUE INDEX

Karies gigi merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan gigi dan mulut yang paling banyak ditemukan pada anak usia sekolah dan berkaitan erat dengan akumulasi plak akibat perilaku kebersihan gigi dan mulut yang kurang baik. Program edukasi kesehatan gigi di sekolah sering dilaksanakan tanpa disertai pemantauan klinis yang objektif, sehingga efektivitasnya sulit dievaluasi secara ilmiah. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk menilai efektivitas edukasi kesehatan gigi menggunakan O’Leary Plaque Index pada siswa SDI Ash-Shiddiq Buduran, Sidoarjo. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei 2026 dengan melibatkan 118 anak usia 6–11 tahun menggunakan pendekatan pre-post intervention. Intervensi yang diberikan meliputi pemeriksaan plak menggunakan disclosing agent, edukasi kesehatan gigi dan mulut, demonstrasi teknik menyikat gigi, serta praktik menyikat gigi bersama yang didampingi. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa rerata indeks plak menurun dari 66,4±6,1% menjadi 48,5±5,3%, dengan rata-rata penurunan sebesar 17,9±3,1%. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa edukasi kesehatan gigi yang disertai visualisasi plak efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan kontrol plak pada anak sekolah dasar. Pemantauan berbasis indikator klinis sederhana juga berpotensi mendukung pelaksanaan program kesehatan gigi sekolah yang lebih terukur dan berbasis bukti.
