Abstract

Penelitian ini berupaya menginterpretasi simbol-simbol kejahatan dalam novel Dasamuka karya Junaedi Setiyono melalui penafsiran hermeneutis Ricoeurian. Metode analisis dilakukan dengan tiga langkah; 1) demitologisasi (memisahkan simbol dan mitos); 2) lingkaran hermeneutik (gerak interpretasi simbol ke mitos dan mitos ke simbol); dan (3) interpretasi kritis dan filosofis (identifikasi atas simbol-simbol inheren). Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: 1) Dasamuka dalam teks dipahami secara mitos dari epik Ramayana, dan secara simbol dari tokoh Danar yang dijuluki Dasamuka; 2) Pelekatan simbol Dasamuka pada Danar relevan dengan karakteristiknya seperti Dasamuka dalam pewayangan; dan (3) Danar menanggung simbol-simbol kejahatan saat membatalkan politik Dasamuka, seperti penodaan, dosa, dan kebersalahan.
