Background : Burn injuries cause disruption of skin integrity and may be accompanied by inflammation, oxidative stress, microbiota imbalance, and an increased risk of infection, requiring comprehensive wound management strategies. Advances in probiotic biotechnology and the utilization of medicinal plants based on local traditional knowledge provide opportunities for developing novel bioactive agents to support wound healing. Herbal yogurt represents a promising candidate because it integrates fermented lactic acid bacteria with bioactive compounds derived from medicinal plants. Objective :This review aimed to analyze the potential of locally sourced herbal yogurt biotechnology as a candidate topical formulation and to evaluate its relevance as an adjunctive approach in nursing care for burn wounds. Methods :A systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature was retrieved from Scopus, PubMed/MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and supporting scientific sources, with the primary publication period ranging from 2020 to 2026 and emphasis on studies published during 2024–2026. The literature was synthesized according to probiotic activity, medicinal plants, fermentation processes, metabolite bioconversion, topical formulation technologies, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities, tissue regeneration, and safety. Results :The reviewed literature indicates that probiotics, particularly lactic acid bacteria, have the potential to inhibit pathogenic microorganisms, modulate wound microbiota, reduce inflammation, promote angiogenesis, and support collagen deposition. Recent studies have also demonstrated the development of hydrogels, probiotic-loaded alginate films, and in situ gelling systems for probiotic delivery in wound management. Medicinal plants provide phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, and other bioactive metabolites with potential antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities. Integrating medicinal plants with yogurt fermentation may provide a bioconversion platform capable of generating complementary microbial metabolites and phytochemicals. However, direct evidence regarding herbal yogurt specifically formulated as a topical treatment for burn wounds remains limited. Conclusion :Locally sourced herbal yogurt has considerable potential as a probiotic-herbal topical candidate for supporting burn wound healing through antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, microbiota-modulating, and tissue-regenerative mechanisms. Further research is required to optimize fermentation, standardize herbal raw materials, characterize bioactive metabolites, develop suitable biomaterial formulations, evaluate probiotic viability and safety, and validate efficacy through in vivo and clinical studies. Herbal yogurt should currently be positioned as an adjunctive approach to nursing care, rather than a replacement for established burn wound treatment
