Author Retraction

Infringements of professional ethical codes (such as multiple submission, bogus claims of authorship, plagiarism, fraudulent use of data, or the like) is forbidden in PACIVIC: Journal of Pancasila and Civic Education. Occasionally, a retraction will be used to correct errors in submission or publication. The retraction of an article by its authors or the editor under the advice of members of the scholarly community has long been an occasional feature of the learned world. Standards for dealing with retractions have been developed by a number of library and scholarly bodies, and this best practice is adopted for article retraction by PACIVIC.

The editor will investigate deeply about the infringements of professional ethical codes. PACIVIC editorial member will notify the authors about the alleged violation along with its proof and offer the options that can be executed by the authors. If the editor is unable to contact the author within the prescribed period, the editor will discuss with other editor and editorial advisory board about this problem.

The standard of article retraction in PACIVIC: Journal of Pancasila and Civic Education are:

  1. A statement (letter) of article retraction, entitled "retraction: (article title)", signed by the authors or editors and (minimum 1) editorial advisory board.
  2. The retracted letter will be issued by PACIVIC editorial member in two languages (Indonesian and English).
  3. The letter of this article (along with evidence, comments, criticism, or request from the members of the scientific community) is placed on the previous page of the article with the same page number as the first page of the article and given the additional code "ed-1" for the first page of the letter and so on (e.g., 56-ed-1, 56-ed-2, etc.).
  4. The original version of the article will be given a "retracted" watermark or stamp and placed after the letter. This new PDF file is made to replace the original PDF file article.
  5. The abstract of the article on PACIVIC: Journal of Pancasila and Civic Education website is replaced with a statement about retracted of the article because violating the ethical code and PACIVIC policy while the keyword of the article is deleted.
  6. The retracted letter of the article will also be published in PACIVIC: Journal of Pancasila and Civic Education on the edition when the letter issued as part of the front matter.

Retraction and Correction:

Authors are discouraged from withdrawing submitted manuscripts after it is in the publication process (review, copyedit, layout, etc.,). During the time, PACIVIC had spent valuable resources besides time spent in the process. Should under any circumstances that the authors still request for a withdrawal, authors should pay back every effort put into the manuscript processes at an amount of US $50. Paid upon official request from the authors in an email sent to JOSI's editor using the same email address used in correspondence.

PACIVIC editors shall consider retracting a publication if:

  • They have clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g. data fabrication) or honest error (e.g. miscalculation or experimental error).
  • The findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper crossreferencing, permission or justification (i.e. cases of redundant publication).
  • It constitutes plagiarism.
  • It reports unethical research.

PACIVIC editors shall consider issuing an expression of concern if:

  • They receive inconclusive evidence of research or publication misconduct by the authors.
  • There is evidence that the findings are unreliable but the authors’ institution will not investigate the case.
  • They believe that an investigation into alleged misconduct related to the publication either has not been or would not be, fair and impartial or conclusive.
  • An investigation is underway but a judgment will not be available for a considerable time.

PACIVIC editors shall consider issuing a correction if:

  • A small portion of an otherwise reliable publication proves to be misleading (especially because of honest error).
  • The author or contributor list is incorrect (i.e. a deserving author has been omitted or somebody who does not meet authorship criteria has been included).

The mechanism follows the guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) which can be accessed at Retraction Guideline COPE.
