Abstract

In this case, the family plays a role in shaping children's attitudes and character patterns and determining the education received by a child; not only schools, but all factors can be a source of education. The understanding of the role of the family experienced by students results in dependence; the research was conducted at SLB Negeri 2 Yogyakarta in May 2024 of the 2023–2024 school year. This study used a quantitative approach with a research design using the pre-experimental method in the form of a one-group pretest-posttest. This study's sampling technique used the class 1 SDLB Negeri 2 Yogyakarta population. This study used non-parametric statistical methods, was analyzed descriptively, and used hypothesis testing using the Wilcoxon test at a significant level of α = 0.05. If the hypothesis test in this study found the asymptote sig value. (2-tailed) is 0.043, which is smaller (<) than the significant level of 0.05, then h₁ is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a difference between the results, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of Kazoku cartoon media on understanding family functioning in students with mental retardation in grade 1 SDLB Negeri 2 Yogyakarta.
