Abstract

Glass painting is a branch of fine art that is a form of traditional expression realised in the form of paintings on glass. The visual objects that are often depicted in the glass painting works of the archipelago are local cultural objects such as puppet characters and religious symbols. This study was made with the aim of describing the tradition of glass painting to young people and encouraging the preservation of glass painting in the modern era. The approach taken is a qualitative and artistic approach. The method used in making this study is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection through observation techniques and literature studies. The results found in this study are the history of glass painting in the archipelago, the process of making glass painting, and examples of traditional glass painting works from the 1920-1960 period along with the background of the work.
