The development of digital technology and social media has led to the phenomenon of self-exposure and oversharing, which has shifted the meaning of shame into a means of self-existence. Shame in Javanese culture has a social function as a behavior controller, maintaining honor, and ensuring harmony in social interactions. This study aims to describe the representation of the value of shame (isin, wirang) in traditional Javanese expressions and examine the form of shame crisis that emerges in the digital culture of contemporary Javanese society. This study uses a hermeneutic approach by interpreting traditional Javanese expressions that represent the ethics of keeping secrets and privacy. The results show that the crisis of shame in the digital world reflects the shift of Javanese ethical values from spiritual shame to performative shame. Javanese ethical values such as ajining diri saka lathi, ajining raga saka busana can be revitalized as the basis of ethical behavior in the digital world. The reinterpretation of shame is important to build the moral awareness of digital society to uphold self-dignity and social harmony.
