MENGGALI NILAI PINTU GEBYOK ARSITEKTUR RUMAH ADAT JAWA: EKSPLORASI ETIKA JAWA FRANZ MAGNIS SUSENO

Abstract

This research aims to examine the value of gebyok doors in the traditional Javanese houses of architecture through the perspective of Franz Magnis Suseno Javanese ethics. This research uses a qualitative method with a literature analysis approach to explore Franz Magnis Suseno Javanese ethics to understand the value of gebyok doors in traditional Javanese architecture. The results of the research show that the principles of Javanese ethical values are embodied in the sacred space of the central hall, which uses a Patangaring gebyok door with a kala motif, a reminder that one must be in state of pruirity when entering the room. The shorter emper gebyok door symbolically implies that others should be andhap asor (polite and humble) and self-aware. The kupu tarung door model, when open, is a cultural medium that articulates to the homeowner to always be friendly, open, and generous, welcoming anyone who comes as a guest. Thus, harmony, psychological state, namely inner peace, tranquility, and sense of security (slamet) envelop the lives of the Javanese people.
