Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with the traditional rubber-jump game (lompat karet) in improving junior high school students' volleyball smash skills. The research employed a One-Group Pretest–Posttest design involving 30 seventh-grade students. Data were collected through volleyball smash skill tests administered before and after the intervention. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, Paired Sample t-test, and N-Gain analysis.

The results revealed an increase in the mean volleyball smash skill score from 64.33 in the pretest to 80.17 in the posttest. The normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed (p > 0.05), while the homogeneity test showed homogeneous variance (p = 0.514). The Paired Sample t-test demonstrated a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores (t = -20.790; p < 0.001). Furthermore, the N-Gain analysis produced a score of 0.44, which falls into the moderate category. These findings indicate that the Problem-Based Learning model based on the traditional rubber-jump game is effective in enhancing students' volleyball smash skills. The integration of traditional games into physical education learning can serve as an innovative instructional strategy to improve students’ motor skills, participation, and learning motivation.
