IMPROVING THE ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE LETTERS IN CHILDREN AGED 5-6 YEARS THROUGH THE MEDIA OF LETTER BLOCKS AT RA ZAHARA, SUKABUMI CITY

Abstract

This research aims to improve the ability to recognize letters in children aged 5-6 years through the use of letter block media at RA Zahara, Sukabumi City. This research was conducted in two cycles using the Classroom Action Research (PTK) method. The subjects of this research were 15 group B children at RA Zahara. Data was obtained through observation and analyzed quantitatively descriptively. The research results showed a significant increase in the ability to recognize letters in students. In the initial observation, 46.7% of children were in the Not Yet Developed (BB) category, but after implementing the letter block method, the BB category decreased to 0% in cycle I and remained 0% in cycle II. In addition, the number of children in the Very Well Developing (BSB) category increased from 0% in the initial observation to 20% in cycle I and 40% in cycle II. This shows that the letter block media is effective in improving the ability to recognize letters. Increase in the number of children in the Developing According to Expectations (BSH) category, which increased from 33.3% in initial observations to 46.7% in cycle II. Although there was an increase in children in the Starting to Develop (MB) category in cycle I, namely from 20% to 60%, this category decreased again to 13.3% in cycle II, which shows a shift to higher categories (BSH and BSB).
