Abstract

Education is the foundation for the development of the nation. The education level in Indonesia starts from early childhood, family planning or kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school and high school. Education at the early childhood, family planning and kindergarten levels is the beginning of character building. At this level, it is also necessary to identify and early detect children with special needs. The purpose of this identification is so that treatment and handling can be right on target. Identification aims to capture children with special needs from heterogeneous environments to look for the specific characteristics that each child has. After carrying out the identification, the next step is to conduct an assessment. Assessment is carried out with the aim of finding or collecting data that will be used in planning and implementing the learning process.

Partners in this PPM activity are PAUD, KB and TK teachers throughout Surabaya. The problem faced by partners is how to identify and early detect and assess children with special needs at the preschool, family planning and kindergarten levels. This training and assistance was carried out offline at the Multipurpose Building of SMPN 26 Surabaya (Jl. Banjar Sugihan Baru No.21, Banjar Sugihan, Tandes District, Surabaya City which was held on September 22, 2022 from 08.00 to 11.00 WIB. In this PPM activity, the lecturer also involved 2 students from the Special Education Study Program.

The conclusions of PkM activities are (1) the importance of identification and early detection of children with special needs at the PAUD, KB and kindergarten levels, and (2) after identifying and detecting early, it is necessary to assess so that children with problems can get appropriate treatment.
