Declaration of generative AI in Scientific Writing

Authors submitting manuscripts to INVENTA: Jurnal Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar must declare the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing upon manuscript submission.

The following guidelines specifically address the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation and writing. They do not directly govern the use of AI technologies for data analysis, educational interventions, the development of AI-based learning materials, or other activities conducted as part of the research methodology. Such applications must be appropriately explained in the Methods section of the manuscript.

Authors must adhere to the following requirements:

  • Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies may only be used during scientific writing to improve the readability, language clarity, grammatical accuracy, and linguistic quality of a manuscript. These technologies must not replace the authors' original intellectual contributions, scientific reasoning, critical analysis, or interpretation of research findings.

  • AI-assisted technologies must be used under appropriate human oversight and control. Authors are required to carefully review, verify, and revise any AI-generated output because such technologies may produce inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, or biased information. Authors remain fully responsible and accountable for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scientific quality of their manuscripts.

  • Authors must not list generative AI systems or AI-assisted technologies as authors or co-authors of submitted manuscripts. Authorship entails intellectual responsibility, accountability, and scholarly contributions that can only be attributed to human researchers.

  • Authors must ensure that AI-assisted manuscript preparation does not compromise academic integrity, intellectual property rights, research confidentiality, or the privacy of research participants, particularly elementary school students, teachers, and educational institutions.

Declaration of AI Use

The use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing must be disclosed in a separate statement included in the manuscript at the time of initial submission.

The declaration must be placed in a dedicated section immediately before the References section. This statement will be retained in the published article to promote transparency and accountability.

Title of the section:

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process

Example of a declaration statement:

During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [NAME OF AI TOOL/SERVICE] to [SPECIFY THE PURPOSE OF USE]. Following the use of this tool/service, the author(s) carefully reviewed, verified, and edited the generated content as necessary. The author(s) take(s) full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and content of the published article.

The declaration requirement does not apply to basic proofreading tools used solely for routine grammar, spelling, punctuation, or reference-format checking without generating substantive scholarly content.

If no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies requiring disclosure were used during manuscript preparation, authors are not required to include an AI declaration statement.

Authors who employ AI technologies as part of the research process, including AI-assisted data analysis, instructional interventions, or the development and evaluation of AI-based educational materials, must transparently describe their use in the Methods section. Such descriptions should identify the technology used, explain its role in the research, and provide relevant information about procedures, validation, and human oversight.

Authors are encouraged to consult the Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy of INVENTA: Jurnal Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar for further guidance on the responsible and ethical use of AI technologies in scholarly publishing.

Use of Generative AI by Reviewers and Editors

To protect authors' intellectual property rights, unpublished research, and manuscript confidentiality, INVENTA does not permit reviewers or editors to upload submitted manuscripts, reviewer reports, editorial correspondence, or other confidential materials into unauthorized generative AI systems, including ChatGPT and similar publicly accessible services.

Reviewers and editors must not use generative AI or AI-assisted technologies to replace independent scientific assessment, critical evaluation, or editorial decision-making.

Peer review and editorial evaluation require professional expertise, academic judgment, impartiality, and accountability that must remain the responsibility of qualified human reviewers and editors.

Reviewers and editors are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality, fairness, objectivity, and integrity of the manuscript evaluation process.

INVENTA recognizes the continuing development of AI-assisted technologies for scholarly publishing and may periodically review and revise these guidelines in accordance with evolving publication ethics standards, technological developments, and appropriate data protection requirements.

All editorial decisions, including manuscript acceptance, revision, and rejection, remain under the authority and responsibility of the journal's human editorial board.
